sconce door

What fun! Hardwire a sconce to an old door and voila! instant ambiance in any corner of the room AND it’s mobile. Just unplug and move whenever you need a little change – great for those of us who have trouble with commitment!

We picked up this old chippy door at Second Chance Salvage in Baltimore.  The chippier, the better!  It’s a good idea to scrape and sand off any loose paint flakes and then clear coat with polycrylic.  This will help maintain that great chippy look without the constant mess.  Many old doors are painted with lead paint so be sure to wear a mask!

Next we drilled a hole in the door for the wire and attached the sconce via the instructions.  We connected our sconce to lamp wire so the sconce can be plugged into an ordinary outlet. FUN!
